In June 2002 the Manchester Village Spartans competed in the inaugural Bingham Cup, sanctioned by IGRAB and hosted by the San Francisco Fog. The lads were hosted by players from the Fog and got to go on many sight-seeing trips, as well as join in with the annual Pride march. In the rugby tournament itself the Spartans made it through the group stages but were knocked out in the semi-finals. They won the subsequent play-off and earned Third Place. Eight teams participated and the tournament was eventually won by the San Francisco Fog.
